Combat Simulator Challenge Tips |
The Perfect Dark Combat Simulator (aka
Multiplayer) mode not only nearly endless options for Multiplayer battles, but
also has thirty preset Challenges to complete.
The reward for completing
these is more Multiplayer features unlocked after certain Challenges are completed.
The
challenges start off easy, but quickly ramp up in difficulty. While a blatant
walkthru is impossible, some advice for each challenge should give a good start
and plan of attack.
Keep in mind this advice was made when playing through
the Challenges alone.

setups, check the Challenges

Challenge Tips Written
by Hutz
Challenge
1: You should have no problems with this
challenge at all. The Meatsim you face is very basic, slow, and inaccurate. Use
this as target practice. |
Challenge
2: This is pretty much as easy as the first
challenge, except Rocket Launchers are available. If you let your guard down you'll
soon realize that even a Meatsim is deadly with an explosive weapon. |
Challenge
3: This Challenge should be a breeze. You
get to experiment with automatics and attaching mines to people. Just be careful
and try not to shoot any Timed Mines your opponents may be holding when you're
up close. |
Challenge
4: King of the Hill is among the more common
Scenarios used in the Challenges, so use this Challenge to get acquainted with
the intricacies of this Scenario. Keep Shielded and try to grab a K7 Avenger to
really stomp your opponent. |
Challenge
5: In this Challenge you get the most famed
Perfect Dark weapon: the Farsight XR-20. This Challenge is good practice for FarSight
camping, which is a good skill for a few later Challenges. Find a place where
the FarSight spawns and stay there. Make sure you opponent's dot on your radar
is directly ahead of you, and look up or down if they're higher or lower than
you. Stay in primary mode, hold the R button, and use C-Left or C-Right to automatically
locate and follow targets. With some practice and skill you should be able to
get the necessary score in no time. |
Challenge
6: The Scenario for this Challenge is Hold
the Briefcase, and you're against four simulants. Find the green spot on your
radar, which represents the briefcase, and dash to it. If a simulant already has
it he'll glow green, so take him down and grab the case. Once you have the case,
the easiest thing to do is stay in a single-entry area and take aim at the entrance,
shooting anybody that comes in. |
Challenge
7: This is the first Challenge that features
One-Hit Kills.
Strategy for One-Hit Kills is much different than regular combat. Get to the hill
quickly, and avoid staying in open areas for too long as you may get hit by an
unseen simulant from a different elevation. Try to get a Cyclone or two, and when
your opponent is visible, fire away until you're sure she's dead. Unlike Goldeneye
007, in Perfect Dark Shields will give you an extra hit in One-Hit Kills, so they're
very valuable to pick up. |
Challenge
8: The Scenario is Capture the Case. Make
your way to your opponent's base (marked by a yellow box on your radar) and steal
the case within, returning it to your case afterwards. Avoid killing your opponent
if he's far away from his base as he'll re-spawn back at his base. Just be careful
if he has a SuperDragon, as the explosive grenade rounds are lethal. |
Challenge
9: It's One-Hit Kills again, but this time
it's out and out combat. There are FarSights in this arena, so FarSight camping
is the most effective strategy. If you can, also grab a Laptop Gun and deploy
it as a Sentry Gun to guard the area where you're camping out. If you have to
face your opponent head-on, try to use the Laptop Gun. |
Challenge
10: Hacker Central is one of the more rare
Scenarios used in the Challenges, and this is the first Challenge that uses it.
The two green boxes on your radar show where the Data Uplink and computer terminal
are. Find the Data Uplink and, right after you've killed your opponent, use it
at the terminal. Stay within range of the terminal or the connection will be terminated,
meaning you'll have to start hacking from the very beginning again. After two
successful hacks you'll win. |
Challenge
11: The difficulty level really starts going
up starting at this Challenge. Make sure to grab the Shield whenever you don't
have much of it, and try to find the K7 Avenger whenever possible. It may be wise
to let your opponent capture the hill once or twice to get yourself set up with
equipment. The key to killing the simulant is shooting as soon as you see him
and not letting up until you're sure he's dead. If you're stuck fighting him with
a tranquilizer, use the primary mode as his movement and aiming skills will fall
well below par with a few shots. |
Challenge
12: This Challenge is played in Slow Motion.
So it doesn't take forever, the kills limit has been drastically reduced to three.
The Slow Motion doesn't affect the simulant, but it gives you a lot more reaction
time. Use it effectively and score headshots. There are SuperDragons here, so
be careful when your opponent has one. She usually goes for the Shield before
anything else, so guarding the Shield is a good idea. |
Challenge
13: This One-Hit Kills match takes place
in the complicated G5 Building. Try to grab a Laptop Gun and use either of its
modes while camping. Your opponent won't stand a chance. If you don't have the
Laptop Gun, you'll need quick reflexes and a sharp eye. |
Challenge
14: As with any Capture the Case match,
speed is crucial. If you grab a Cloaking Device or two, your opponents won't even
see you stealing their case (that is, unless you fire your weapon or run out of
Cloak!). Be extra careful if one of your opponents has a FarSight, or if you see
there's a yellow dot missing on your radar, meaning somebody is using a Cloaking
Device. You can use the FarSight yourself to clear out your base before heading
back, as well as for protecting your case. |
Challenge
15: This Challenge can be quite tricky because
of the Devastators. Your opponents have deadly accuracy with them, and will always
aim at your feet. Once you have the briefcase, use one of two strategies: keep
running away from your opponents, which sometimes doesn't work because of pincer
movements; or camp at a cul de sac, which are somewhat hard to find. If you camp,
use the Devastator. |
Challenge
16: This is the only Challenge with no radar.
You'll instantly feel withdrawal from it. Not only that, but you're facing your
first PerfectSim. Find the room with the Proximity Mines and barricade the door
with two or three quickly placed mines. Once you're in the lead, he'll hang around
the door but won't enter your trap. Sometimes he sets off the mines without getting
hurt. If he does, make sure to replenish the barricade instantly before he charges
you. Waiting it out for ten minutes is the easiest way to win. |
Challenge
17: The PerfectSim you face doesn't seem
as hard as a PerfectSim. Just get to the Hills and defend them as usual. Since
there are Slayers available, however, keep an eye out for the yellow dot on your
radar. If it stops moving for a long period of time, he's most likely hunting
you down with a Fly-by-Wire rocket, so either run away from it when it comes or
try to shoot it down (it's possible, but beware the explosion!). Use the Fly-by-Wire
rockets yourself when around the corner from a Hill your opponent is occupying.
|
Challenge
18: This Challenge requires utter memorization
of the level as well as a lot of practice. The basic strategy is to get the Cloaking
Device and Laptop Gun before going for the hill. Use the Sentry Gun and Cloaking
Device in each hill to kill your opponents and protect yourself. |
Challenge
19: You get to FarSight camp in this Challenge,
but the bad news is it's Fast Movement, meaning your opponents will be a lot harder
to hit. If you'd rather face your opponents head on, the weapon of choice is definitely
the CMP150. |
Challenge
20: This Challenge can be very tricky unless
you use the right strategy. You're in the tight and maze-like Sewers and it's
One-Hit Kills again. Before doing anything, Hold A to bring up the Quick-Menu
and hit Z twice to select the Simulant wheel. Choose Protect. Get whichever weapon
you're comfortable with (Magsec 4 and Mauler are good choices) and the Shield
if you can find it quickly. Head over to a cul de sac and wait for your buddy
to get to you. Your buddy will always point her gun(s) at your opponent, even
if he's behind walls. Use that and the Radar to figure out when he's coming, and
give him a good blast until you're sure he's dead. Just keep camping until you
win. |
Challenge
21: Hacker Central is just funny because
the Simulants are so stupid when they hack. Ironically, the first Hacker Central
challenge was the hardest one. If the Sim starts hacking, simply go for headshots.
She won't even try to defend herself until the connection breaks. Hack when you're
cloaked and you should be fine. |
Challenge
22: The Base is a tricky level to fight
in, as it's roomy yet maze-like. Grab the Briefcase, a K7 Avenger, and a Shield
if possible. Run like mad to a cul de sac and camp there. You should be able to
hold your ground until you win. |
Challenge
23: You get ten minutes to score two kills
in Slow Motion. The speed reduction should definitely give you quite the edge,
especially if you pick up a Laptop Gun or RC-P120. |
Challenge
24: There's no time limit in this Challenge.
It's probably a good thing too, because this one takes a long time to complete.
Try to avoid the large open room, as the Sims tend to have an advantage when your
elevation is different from theirs. Even though they're all EasySims, there are
plenty of explosive weapons for them to nuke you with, so don't underestimate
them. Once you have their case, run cautiously back to your base while avoiding
Simulant contact. If a simulant steals your case, camp out at their base and ambush
them when they attempt to make their delivery. |
Challenge
25: There are three crucial weapons in this
Challenge: Cloaking Device, K7 Avenger, and most importantly, the FarSight The
easiest way to beat this Challenge is to FarSight camp. Be aware when you see
dots go missing on your radar, which signify cloaking opponents. If you'd rather
face your opponents head on, make sure to use the Cloaking Device. |
Challenge
26: You must memorize this level before
being able to complete the Challenge. The best strategy here is to defend the
Hill with a Sentry Gun, and arm yourself with double Maulers (charged) or double
Cyclones. Beware the Reaper. Simulants are particularly deadly with that weapon,
yet it is less than helpful when you use it. |
Challenge
27: There is a simple way to beat this Challenge.
Don't bother going for the Data Uplink. Instead, find the Rocket Launcher. Camp
near the terminal and wait until your opponent starts hacking. Take aim and nuke
him. If you tie this Challenge (or any one for that matter) you'll still complete
it. |
Challenge
28: You don't have to be proficient at killing
DarkSims here, but it helps. A lot. If you get the right base locations, though,
you can just speed through while barely firing a weapon. The only decent weapon
for you to use is the AR34. The Simulants themselves, given time, will always
use the Shotgun. |
Challenge
29: There's no avoiding it now. You have
to have a lot of practice and skill fighting DarkSims. You should be using an
automatic weapon when attacking your opponents. Camping out at a single spot helps
a lot. |
Challenge
30: There's not a whole lot of advice that
can help you for this hellishly difficult Challenge. You should know the Skedar
arena by now, so that should help. Use the Magsec 4 or charged Mauler, and try
to keep your buddy at the hill when you're going to score points. Other than that,
you need to be damn good. Good luck! |
